Hundreds of video games get released every year, and there’s not enough time to play them all. How are you supposed to know which games are worth your time? Video game news and reviews sites are a good way to keep up with what’s happening in the gaming world and see if the latest releases are worth buying.

We’ve picked out the best game review sites and video game news sites on the internet to help with this. Whether you want to check on a game’s quality before buying it, or just want to browse the latest gaming headlines, one of these great game websites will serve you well.

A Word on Mainstream Gaming Sites

Video games journalism has gone through a lot of problems in the past decade. We’ll spare specific details here, but suffice it to say that several well-known video game websites have suffered major breaches of ethics: collusion, undisclosed financial ties, and cronyism, among other behaviors.

Additionally, for many gaming sites, the focus has shifted away from reviewing games based primarily on their gameplay and quality. Now, some sites emphasize social and political issues above all else, or even have authors who treat some articles like their personal blog. Other gaming sites have branched out to cover other forms of entertainment (like movies, TV, and music) to the detriment of their gaming coverage.

We encourage you to research these issues and draw your own conclusions about whether you want to follow such mainstream gaming sites. Whatever sites you do choose to read, it’s important that you pay attention to the writers you’re reading, not just the site. There really isn’t a “best game review site” for everyone, since quality differs among the authors at various sites.

1. Destructoid

Destructoid is a great all-around gaming site with a bit of everything. It publishes articles regularly, with lots of news posts, reviews, and features appearing each week. This includes updates on certain games, previews of upcoming games, and opinion pieces.

It’s not just a gaming news site, though. Destructoid publishes reviews of console and PC games, as well as mobile titles and even DLC. Its reviews are straightforward, and you can read Destructoid’s scoring system to understand how it rates games.

Top off this coverage with video content and community forums, and you’ve got a solid video game website anyone can enjoy.

2. GamesRadar+

Another gaming news site that offers a healthy balance of content, GamesRadar+ provides news, reviews, features, hands-on looks at new games, and more. You can view reviews and guides for games on your favorite system, or check out the latest news and reviews.

GamesRadar+ doesn’t review the volume of games many other sites do. At the time of writing, the site’s latest batch of reviews includes a few big-name games, but are mostly hardware reviews. This shows that the staff takes their time and doesn’t rush out reviews.

In the reviews, clear Pros/Cons lists and a summary of the verdict make them easy to skim. Overall, GamesRadar+ provides lots of content to check out, as well as quick stories for staying abreast of gaming news.

3. Game Informer

Game Informer is a long-running video game magazine that also has a website. Unlike other gaming websites that also feature content for movies and TV, this one is all about games (occasionally covering movies and TV based on games). You’ll find news, previews of upcoming games, reviews, and features.

It’s an old-school take on a game website in the overcomplicated modern age, which is welcome. Many of the staff are longtime game players, and the site has a professional feel to it. It summarizes its reviews with a number, which not all gaming sites do nowadays.

Overall, Game Informer is a website run by people who love video games, built for players. The site doesn’t review every little game, but what’s here is excellent and there’s no political nonsense to worry about.

4. Metacritic

If you don’t feel like wading through detailed reviews and just want a quick score to see if a game is worth playing, Metacritic is for you. It’s not a review website in itself, but instead aggregates scores from various game review websites (like Rotten Tomatoes and similar websites do for movies).

Search for a game, and you’ll see a weighted score from 1-100. You can click through to read individual reviews, or compare what the critics thought to user reviews.

A lot of the time, it’s hard to sum up a game’s quality in a single number. Thus, many people have issues with the weight placed on Metacritic, but it’s a fine place to start your research on a game. Just remember that a numbered score isn’t everything.

5. Nintendo Life

As its name suggests, this is one of the best gaming websites for Nintendo enthusiasts. Nintendo Life specializes in covering the Nintendo Switch, 3DS, eShop, and similar topics. You’ll find reviews, news, features, and even original videos.

The guides stand out here. They provide help for major games, such as type weaknesses in Pokémon or how to spot fake paintings in Animal Crossing. The site reviews downloadable eShop titles as well as mainstream releases, so there’s a lot of coverage.

With a pleasant community in the forums and comment sections, this is a must-visit for all Nintendo fans.

6. GameSpot

GameSpot is a well-known gaming site that’s worth a visit. You’ll find popular and recent news on its homepage, along with lists of upcoming games and recent reviews.

The site reviews games, both popular and small, on every platform. For something a little different, you can also check out its video shows and forums to connect with other gamers.

There are some occasional quirks with its reviews, like the writer mentioning that they didn’t play through the entire game. Because of this, it is nice to see a summary of what the reviewer played at the bottom of the article. But overall, it’s a quality resource.

7. Christ Centered Gamer

With the above discussion of bias in games, you might think a site with an obvious predisposition is an odd choice to include. But Christ Centered Gamer has received praise for its clear reviews from people concerned about the ethics of mainstream game sites.

Unlike sites that let author biases influence their ranking of a game’s quality, this site separates its reviews into two scores. One scores the game technically on its gameplay, controls, and other qualities. The other scores the morality of the game, based on factors like language, sexual content, and similar.

If you’re a person of faith, or want more information about video games for your children beyond the basic game age rating, you can take the morality score into account. But if you don’t care about that, you can skip right past it and still enjoy a quality review of the game on its own merits.

This page isn’t as well-known as some other game review sites, but it’s up-front about its biases and hasn’t had concerning breaches of ethics. You may find that refreshing.

Websites for User-Written Game Reviews

The above sites are all professional publications for game news and reviews. However, don’t forget that there are tons of resources online to read user-created reviews too. Since opinions on games are subjective, you might prefer to read several reviews from everyday players in addition to, or instead of, professional articles.

YouTube

Anyone with an opinion and a YouTube channel can make a video reviewing a game. If you prefer to watch gameplay for a game instead of just reading about it, this is a great option. Chances are that you’ll be able to find someone talking about the game you’re interested in. Have a look at the best YouTube game review channels to start.

GameFAQS

In addition to being one of the best places for game walkthroughs, GameFAQs is a useful resource for user reviews of games too. Search for a game and check its Reviews tab to see what others thought about it.

These reviews don’t follow any particular pattern, so it’s up to each person to discuss what they feel is important and structure the review accordingly.

Steam

Steam has a handy review system that makes it easy to see what a lot of other players thought about the game. Just scroll down on any game’s page on Steam to take a look. You can filter by positive or negative reviews, how long the reviewer played the game, and other criteria. It’s even possible to see a graph of reviews over time.

A lot of games feature “funny” reviews, which aren’t that useful, but you can filter some of those out with Steam’s tools. Others can give awards for reviews, and the most helpful ones rise to the top. Even if you don’t play on PC, checking Steam reviews for any game that you’re interested in is a helpful resource.

The Top Video Game Websites Worth Your Time

The best video game websites aren’t necessarily the ones you hear about often. Many game websites have major drawbacks—whether it’s a lack of ethics, poorly justified review scores, or a radical bias. But these sites are great places to get your video game reviews, as well as some news.

In addition to these options, it’s a good idea to find some Twitch streamers that you enjoy. Game websites employ dozens of people, which makes it difficult to find a consistent voice. With a single streamer, you can understand their preferences and better see if a game is right for you. Plus, seeing a game in real-time for yourself always helps.

Most of today’s internet traffic is spent streaming online video, with YouTube taking up a massive chunk. Over 400 hours of video content is uploaded to YouTube every minute, and the platform has a greater reach in the 18-49 demographic than cable TV.

And then, you have to consider other video streaming sites like Vimeo, Dailymotion, Twitch, and so on. That’s a lot of data flowing around—and if your ISP caps your monthly data allowance, then all this video streaming can be expensive.

The solution is to capture or download online videos to watch offline, allowing you to re-watch videos as many times as you want without wasting data.

Here are some of the best tools for capturing and downloading videos to watch offline.

1. Video DownloadHelper

Available on: Chrome, Firefox, and Edge.

Supported sites: YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Vimeo, Dailymotion, Lynda, Twitter, Udemy, and hundreds of other sites.

Video DownloadHelper is easily one of the most useful browser extensions for downloading streaming videos that you’ll ever install. The downside (sort of) is that you have to install it on your browser; if you already run numerous extensions, the last thing you need is another one making Chrome even slower. But if you download numerous videos daily, Video DownloadHelper is definitely worth it.

The extension adds a button next to your browser’s address bar. Whenever you come across an online video, just click the button to download any video on the current page. Use the pop-up box to decide where to save it on your computer. Just note that the Chrome version of the extension can’t download YouTube videos. If that’s what you want, use the Firefox version.

2. 4K Video Downloader

Available on: Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Supported sites: YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo, Flickr, Dailymotion, and several other sites.

4K Video Downloader is the most straightforward tool to capture video from a website. We recommend it if you want a no-hassle option that requires close to zero effort on your part. It works quickly and doesn’t throttle your download, plus it’s straightforward to get to grips with.

Just copy the URL of an online video and paste it into 4K Video Downloader. You can paste links to YouTube playlists or YouTube channels to download every video available. In fact, you can even subscribe to YouTube channels and auto-download new videos as they’re made available. You can also download the annotations and subtitles in YouTube videos.

Video downloads are available in 8K, 4K, 1080p, or 720p (as long as the source video was uploaded at that resolution, of course). In addition, you can also download videos in MP4, MKV, and FLV formats. Or, you can download only the audio portion in MP3 or M4A formats.

3. Freemake Video Downloader

Available on: Windows, Mac

Supported sites: YouTube, Facebook, Liveleak, Veoh, Vimeo, Dailymotion, and dozens of other sites.

Freemake Video Downloader is one of the most popular video downloading tools for any site. It’s easy to use and relatively flexible as far as quality and format options are concerned. However, the one big downside is that you can only download up to 4K videos. Additionally, unless you subscribe to one of the app’s paid plans, you won’t download anything above 720p.

Despite these shortcomings, videos can be downloaded in a handful of formats, including AVI, FLV, MKV, MP4, and WMV. If you only want the audio portion, videos can also be downloaded in MP3 format. The actual process only requires the URL of the video—just copy and paste it in.

4. JDownloader

Available on: Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Supported sites: Nearly any site with streaming video.

JDownloader is a stream downloader but with a twist. You take the URL of any page that has a video on it, paste it into the app, and it will scan the page for all the videos it can detect. You get to pick which of the detected videos you want to download.

The nice thing about JDownloader is that you don’t need the direct URL of a specific video. For example, take a MakeUseOf article with five embedded videos, and all of them will be available to download. No need to fumble around finding out the direct URL of the video. This makes it effortless to capture several videos at once.

However, be aware that the installer comes with bundleware, which is where other programs are pushed to you that you don’t need. When you run the installer, you’ll come across a page that offers to install “Bing Search” or something else. On this page, the buttons will change to Decline and Accept. Ensure you click Decline because this will prevent bundleware from being installed on your system.

5. youtube-dl

Available on: Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Supported sites: YouTube, Facebook, Crunchyroll, Metacafe, Vimeo, Dailymotion, and thousands of other sites.

youtube-dl is a tool for advanced users who are comfortable using the command line. If you prefer graphical interfaces, save yourself the headache and just use one of the ones listed above.

But if you’re okay with command line utilities, then youtube-dl offers the most flexibility of any video downloading tool. It’s complicated enough to have a non-trivial learning curve though, so prepare to read the documentation, or else you’ll be lost.

You could also try youtube-dl-gui, which is an unofficial front-end user interface that’s available for Windows and Linux. Despite its steep learning curve, youtube-dl can download streaming videos from select platforms like Crunchyroll.

Features include several video selection and quality parameters, playlist processing, download rate limit, batch video downloading, automatic naming of files, the inclusion of ads, and downloading subtitles (for sites like YouTube).

The following formats are supported: 3GP, AAC, FLV, M4A, MP3, MP4, OGG, WAV, and WEBM.

The Last Resort for Capturing Online Videos

If you encounter a video that isn’t supported by any of the above tools, the last resort is to play the video in full-screen mode and record your screen as it plays.

It’s not a perfect solution, but it normally works when nothing else does. Keep in mind, however, that some sites and apps (especially TV streaming services) will not let a screen recorder capture the footage. When you go to play the video back again, you will just be faced with a blank screen.

A Virtual Private Network (VPN) helps you browse the internet anonymously while encrypting your data. Whether you are connecting to an unsecured Wi-Fi network at a coffee shop or trying to log into a secured corporate network, a VPN is vital in protecting your privacy.

But as important as VPNs are, sometimes they don’t work as planned. In fact, most users occasionally face the dilemma of having no internet when connected to a VPN.

So, what good is connecting to a VPN if you cannot browse the internet? Why is there no internet access after connecting to your VPN?

How Does a VPN Route Traffic?

A VPN creates a secure tunnel of communication between your internet connection and the remote network without compromising security or speed.

It achieves this security level by shielding your IP address and routing the internet traffic through an encrypted tunnel that is created between your originating traffic and the destination.

This way, the VPN server becomes the source of your data every time you browse the internet by severing you from the rest of the unsecured public internet.

A VPN also keeps your online activities anonymous so that no one, including your Internet Service Provider (ISP), can see which websites you visit or what you download.

The VPN also works as a filter that makes your data undecipherable as it travels through the encrypted tunnel. Encryption makes it hard for even the cleverest online intruders to decode your data.

Why Is There No Internet When My VPN Is On?

While a VPN is a great asset when you want to extend a private network across a public one, things don’t always go as planned. Not being able to connect to the internet while your VPN is turned on is frustrating yet very common.

Here are some potential reasons behind this problem.

1. Bad Internet Connection

A bad internet connection can prevent you from connecting to the internet with or without a VPN.

To confirm the source of the problem, disconnect your VPN connection and then try to access the internet. If there is still no internet access even after disconnecting your VPN, then the problem is with your network.

Generally, rebooting your device and checking your network status can alleviate this problem. If not, you can also contact the internet providers to get a solution. They will guide you through a series of steps to get your internet to function.

2. DNS Configuration Issues

The most common reason why you cannot browse the internet when connected to the VPN is a DNS configuration issue.

Every website or domain name such as google(dot)com has an associated IP address. But humans are not good at memorizing IP addresses, so the DNS (Domain Name System) converts and translates those domain names into IP addresses, so we can surf the internet with ease.

However, faulty DNS settings can cause issues and prevent you from going online once you are connected to a VPN server. To fix this problem, you will need to change your DNS settings manually.

3. Bad Server Choice

If you are connected to a VPN server that is down, blocked (some countries block VPN connections), or has other issues, then it might prevent you from getting connected.

Generally, VPN providers offer hundreds of different servers, so trying to reconnect to a different one might just get around this problem.

If you can access the internet after switching the VPN server location, then most likely there was a temporary issue with the server location you selected originally.

4. Incorrect VPN Protocol

A routing protocol is a set of rules that determine how your data travels from source to destination; VPNs support different types of routing protocols. However, if your VPN uses the UDP protocol by default, it may be blocked in some countries.

To ensure the best outcome, open your VPN’s options or settings and select Protocol from the list. Then choose the protocols below in the following order of preference:

  • OpenVPN TCP.
  • L2TP.
  • PPTP.

5. Incorrect VPN Port

The flow of traffic to and from a VPN server is managed by VPN ports. Just like VPN protocols, some ports might also get blocked, causing no internet access when connected to VPN.

Finding and switching to the correct port is important. But ports can be a bit challenging. It’s best to contact your VPN provider, so they can suggest the port that is suitable for your needs.

6. Default Gateway Settings

The default gateway settings should be left unchecked if you are having issues connecting to the internet while your VPN is turned on. This is because if you have configured your VPN connection to use the default gateway on the remote network, then this setting overrides the default gateway settings that you specify in your TCP/IP settings.

To uncheck the default gateway option, here are the steps to follow if you are a Windows user:

  1. Go to Start > Control Panel > Network & Internet > Network & Sharing Center > Change Adapter Settings.
  2. Right-click the VPN connection adapter and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Networking tab.
  4. Double-click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) option.
  5. Click the Advanced button and go to the IP Settings tab.
  6. Uncheck the Use default gateway on the remote network option.
  7. Click OK three times.

7. Proxy Server Settings

A proxy server acts as a middleman between your computer and the internet. It is often used to hide your real location, so you can access websites that would otherwise be blocked based on your geographical location.

Sometimes, a web browser’s proxy settings may block access when a VPN connection is found. Disabling or changing proxy settings may resolve this problem. Fortunately, you can change your proxy settings in Google Chrome.

8. VPN Kill Switch Turned On

A VPN kill switch is a special VPN feature that automatically disconnects your device from the internet when your VPN connection goes down. It is done to prevent the possibility of accidentally exposing your IP address while the VPN is down. This may be a reason why after connecting to VPN, the internet is not working.

You might face internet connection problems if your VPN comes back online, but the kill switch is still enabled. To fix the issue, manually check if the kill switch is enabled and then disable it to get back online.

9. Using an Older VPN Version

If the internet is not working when you’re connected to VPN, using an older VPN version might be the reason.

Having an updated VPN is important to avoid connection issues. If you are running an outdated version, update it. You can also re-install the VPN software again.

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Go to Start > Control Panel > Programs & Features.
  2. Right-click on your installed VPN client, then select Uninstall.
  3. Visit your VPN provider’s website after uninstalling it to download the newest version of the software.
  4. Restart your computer.

10. Incorrect Date and Time Settings

In some instances, incorrect date and time settings might lead to your VPN blocking the internet.

To check for misconfigured time and date settings, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Start > Settings > Time & Language > Date & Time.
  2. Select Change under Change date and time, and update it with the current date and time.
  3. Click the dialog box under Time Zone to check if it’s set correctly.

Be Wary of Free VPN Providers

The best things in life do not come without a price tag. So you should always be wary of free VPN providers.

Along with having servers that can get quickly overloaded due to a high influx of traffic, free VPN providers cannot necessarily be trusted with your private data. Not only do you suffer from a spotty internet connection, but you are also putting your precious data at risk, as free VPN providers are more likely to track your data to cover their operational costs.

So, if you are still at crossroads between getting a free VPN provider or a paid service, always go with the latter if you can afford it. Paid versions sometimes show glitches like having no internet access when connected to a VPN, but these issues are fixable and are much more reliable with data security.

Do you want to download videos from the internet? If you see a video you like on Facebook, YouTube, Vimeo, or other leading video sites, you might want to create a copy to keep it forever.

Thankfully, downloading videos off the internet is surprisingly easy, and we’ll look at the best ways to do it for free.

In this article, we cover video downloaders for specific social media sites, flexible all-in-one downloaders, and screen recorders so you can be sure to get any video you want online.

1. Y2Mate

Y2Mate is one of the best YouTube video downloaders. Just copy the URL of the YouTube video you want to download, paste it into the Y2Mate’s URL field, and press Enter. On the next page, click the green Download Video button.

Then, choose from five download resolutions (144p, 240p, 360p, 480p, 720p, and 1080p) in MP4 or WebM format. The estimated file size is also shown. Click the Download button next to your preferred resolution to start downloading the YouTube video for offline viewing.

You can also use Y2Mate to download the MP3 audio of YouTube videos.

2. SSSTik

SSSTik is a popular TikTok video downloader. This tool stands out because it lets you download TikTok videos without the watermark.

Like Y2Mate, the download steps are essentially the same. Just copy the TikTok video’s URL, paste it to SSSTik’s URL field, and click Download. Then, click the Without Watermark button to download the TikTok video.

You can also use SSSTik to download the MP3 audio used in the TikTok video.

3. DownloadTwitterVideo

Twitter doesn’t have as many video posts as TikTok or Facebook, but if there’s any video you want to download from there, Download Twitter Videos does the job.

Copy the tweet’s URL containing the video you want, then paste it to Download Twitter Videos. You can select whether you want to save it as MP4 or MP4 HD.

4. iGram

Instagram initially forged its reputation as a photo-sharing service, but it has since also positioned itself as a video platform. iGram helps you download Instagram reels and videos as MP4 files.

Besides videos, you can also use iGram to download Instagram photos. You can choose three different resolutions, but any photo you download will only be available as a JPEG.

5. FDown

FDown is a tool for downloading public videos or reels off Facebook. Just copy the Facebook URL and paste it to FDown to download it. You can choose to download the Facebook video in normal or HD quality.

Take note that FDown may sometimes provide an inaccurate video duration estimate. For example, the site may detect that your 3-minute video is 180 hours. You can simply ignore this. Rest assured that your downloaded file will have the correct duration.

FDown also has a Chrome extension called Video Downloader Plus. With the extension, you don’t need to leave the social network’s homepage if you find something you want to save. However, the extension will only let you download videos in HD quality, and thus the file size will be larger.

In the past, FDown also served as a private Facebook video downloader. Although the service has been disabled since 2019, there are still alternative methods to download private Facebook videos.

6. Pokopin

Pokopin is a Pinterest video downloader. If you’re browsing your topic of interest and come across a good video tutorial, you don’t have to find its original YouTube or TikTok source to download it. With Pokopin, you can download the video directly from Pinterest.

In Pinterest, tap the video pin to open it on a new webpage. Then, copy its URL and paste it into Pokopin’s URL field. Click the red Download button. Pokopin will generate a link to download the Pinterest video in MP4 format.

7. Freemake Video Downloader

Freemake Video Downloader is a desktop app that lets you download videos from over 10,000 sites. The list includes YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo, Dailymotion, and more. The app is available for both Windows and Mac.

You can use Freemake to save videos, playlists, and channels in formats such as MP4, MP3, AVI, WMV, MPEG, 3GP, and FLV. All you need to do is launch Freemake, copy the video URL from your web browser, paste it into the app, and pick your preferred format.

Overall, Freemake is a top all-in-one app. However, note that it does not support downloading videos from YouTube Music or any other copyright-protected video.

8. ClipConverter

If you don’t want to go out of your way to install a video downloader app on your computer, you can head to your web browser and try out ClipConverter.

With ClipConverter, you can easily download any video from popular sites like YouTube and Vimeo. Other supported platforms include (but are not limited to) Reddit, Tumblr, MySpace, and Twitch.

You can opt to download your video in MP4, 3GP, AVI, MOV, and MKV formats. If you just want the audio, you can download that in MP3, M4A, or AAC format. The developers also offer a browser add-on for Chrome, Firefox, and Safari.

9. Online Video Converter

OnlineVideoConverter is an alternative video downloader you can check out too. Besides common platforms such as YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook, and Instagram, OnlineVideoConverter also lets you download videos from sites like TED, 9GAG, and Veojam.

After pasting the video URL, change the format dropdown to MP4 and select your preferred video quality. Click Start for OnlineVideoConverter to generate your video download link.

10. VLC Media Player

VLC Media Player is one of the best free media players. The beauty of using VLC is that it’s a program many users already have installed on their machines and negates the need for third-party apps.

If you already have this desktop app, you can download online videos for free right away. The first step is to copy the web URL of your video. Next, in VLC, go to Media > Open Network Stream. Paste the URL in the empty field under Please enter a network URL and click Play.

Your video should start playing in VLC. Then, go to Tools > Media Information. Copy everything in the Location field, paste that into a new web page, and you’ll see the video in your browser. Click the ellipsis icon and select Download to get the video in MP4.

Unfortunately, VLC can’t download YouTube videos. However, you can still use it for other sites, such as Vimeo and Dailymotion.

11. OBS Studio

We’re closing out our list with one final tip and software recommendation. When you have exhausted all other download possibilities, you can instead play the video, set it to full screen, then screen record your device. Make sure you also enable system sound recording to record the video’s audio.

OBS Studio is one of the best free screen recorder apps on the web. It’s available on Windows, Mac, and Linux, and it also includes a powerful editing tool. There are other similar free screen recorders for Windows and Mac, but you should start with OBS Studio as it’s one of the better options.

Alternatively, simply check if your device has a built-in screen recorder, so you don’t need to install third-party ones. You can screen record on your Windows PC using the default Xbox Game Bar. There are also a couple of methods to record your screen on a Mac.

Downloading Videos From the Internet? A Word of Warning…

Please remember that all the tools listed in this article are for creating recordings of free online videos for personal use. They should not be used to save and distribute copyrighted material. Doing so could get you in serious trouble with the law.

Downloading videos is also against some sites’ terms of service. Your account could be suspended or permanently banned. Keep this in mind when you’re thinking of downloading any video from the internet.

From Facebook to LinkedIn to Reddit, it seems that every few years a new social media platform pops up, dominating attention and becoming an internet star. The latest contender is OnlyFans.

While you’ve undoubtedly heard of OnlyFans before, you might be wondering what exactly it’s used for. Here, we’ll take a look at just that.

What Is OnlyFans?

OnlyFans is a social media content subscription service. It charges subscribers a recurring fee for access to its content. This content includes images, recorded and live videos, direct messages, and sometimes even merchandise.

OnlyFans is most well-known for NSFW content, and has become a very popular app for the adult entertainment industry. Unfortunately, this content means that OnlyFans is not available on any mobile app stores.

Instead, you’ll have to visit OnlyFans with a browser on either a desktop or mobile device. On mobile devices, you can save the webpage to your home screen. This will create an additional app icon on your home screen, allowing you to access OnlyFans like an app.

In order to access any content on OnlyFans, you must first set up an account. Setting up an account is quick and free, but you must be over 18 years old. You must subscribe to a creator’s account and pay that creator a fee to view the content they have put up, unless the creator’s account is specifically set up to allow free access.

Fans will pay anywhere from a minimum fee of $4.99 to a maximum fee of $49.99 per month to access a creator’s content. You also have the option to tip creators to purchase additional content from them, or just as to give a gift. The minimum tip is $5 and the maximum tip is $100.

What Content Will You Find on OnlyFans?

There are four main types of content available on OnlyFans: videos, photos, direct messages, and status updates. Like most social media platforms, photos and videos are the most popular with the fans, especially where adult entertainment is concerned.

Updates work just like Facebook posts. All the creators have to do is to type out a message on their keyboard and post it to their OnlyFans page to engage the fans.

As we touched upon, the majority of OnlyFans content (estimated to be around 70-80 percent) is created by adult entertainers and sex workers. The content can range from mildly flirtatious to X-rated content.

The rest of the content on the platform is completely clean. This content consists of videos from Hollywood actors, musicians, fitness trainers, influencers, journalists, filmmakers, and small businesses, among others.

Some popular non-sexual creators include Duke and Jones, who use OnlyFans to promote their content and to support COVID-19 charities, American rapper Swae Lee, and The Plastic Boy sharing step-by-step makeup and skincare regimes.

Of course, not all OnlyFans users are well-known individuals, anyone can have an account. If you take a look around, there’s no shortage of creators you can support.

OnlyFans seems determined to go mainstream in non-sexual content, as it also launched a SFW-only app called OnlyFans TV (OFTV).

Rather than the paid subscription model, OFTV allows free access to everyone. So far, OFTV has over 800 videos from more than 100 creators. The videos cover all SFW content from the old site, everything from exercise to vlogs to fashion to cooking to meditation.

What Does the Future Look Like for OnlyFans?

OnlyFans is still relatively new, and the jury is still out on whether it will catch up to the popular social media apps we use on a daily basis.

While it might be hard to compete in a saturated social media market, there’s no denying the impact and prevalence the app has for sex workers.

Do you lose connection to Riot’s servers when the League of Legends’ matchmaking process begins? Does it disconnect mid-gameplay? These issues usually occur when your internet connection isn’t strong enough to keep you connected to Riot’s servers. However, there could also be several other factors at play.

As such, we will examine all possible reasons for League of Legends disconnecting from Riot’s servers on Windows. Moreover, we will provide you with fixes you can apply to resolve this annoying issue.

Why Is League of Legends Disconnecting, and How Can You Fix It?

The League of Legends client randomly disconnects when you’re not connected to the internet or your connection drops or weakens. Other causes of this issue include Riot servers being down, Windows Defender or firewall blocking your connection, a problem with the game’s client, your router blocking the game’s connection, or interference from your ISP.

To fix the League of Legends disconnecting issue, you should ensure you’re properly connected to the internet, the connection isn’t weak or unstable, the Riot servers aren’t down, whitelist the game from Windows Defender or antivirus to rule out their interference, resolve League of Legends client issues, and check for router or ISP problems.

But First, Some Preliminary Checks…

Take the following steps before leaping into more complex troubleshooting tricks:

  • Log out and back into League of Legends.
  • Close the League of Legends game client and reopen it.
  • Turn your router off and on again.
  • Reset your network settings if you recently tweaked them.
  • Restart your device to rule out temporary OS bugs.
  • If you have a VPN enabled, disable it.
  • Disable any active proxy settings on Windows, if you have one.

If none of these do the trick, it’s time to start performing some more complicated fixes.

1. Ensure the Problem Isn’t on Riot’s Side

Because League of Legends is always online, everything is dependent on Riot’s servers to run properly. Therefore, you should ensure the problem isn’t originating from the backend. Follow these steps to confirm that:

  1. Go to the Riot Games Server Status website.
  2. Choose the language (in which you usually play the game)
  3. Check the Recently Closed and Current Messages sections for any issues reported.Checking Riot Games Server Status on Official Website

If other users have reported a similar problem, rest assured that your connectivity issues stem from Riot’s servers, and not from your PC. All you have to do is wait for the problem to be resolved automatically.

2. Rule Out Internet Issues

If Riot servers are fully active, your internet might be the problem. Test your internet speed using free internet speed test websites and ensure it’s properly connected.

If the internet is connected and the connection is stable, clear the DNS cache. To do that, type “Command Prompt” in Windows Search and open the Command Prompt appEnter “ipconfig /flushdns” and press Enter.

If the internet isn’t connected or is unstable, follow these steps:

  • Double-check that your PC is connected to the right Wi-Fi signal.
  • Fix any Wi-Fi connection instability for a more stable connection.
  • If possible, connect to the internet via an Ethernet cable.
  • Close the bandwidth-hungry processes running in the background behind League of Legends.
  • Disconnect other devices sharing the same connection so that your primary device has maximum bandwidth.

Proceed to the next step if the above checks and fixes do not help.

3. Connect to a Different Network

If you keep getting disconnected in League of Legends, you can temporarily connect to a different internet connection, such as your mobile data. After changing the network, run the game again.

If you do not experience the same issue on a different network, the problem lies with your primary internet connection. It could be a hardware issue with your router, a restriction from your ISP, or something else. You should have your ISP representative inspect your internet to rule out all of this.

However, if the problem persists after changing the internet, the OS must be at fault.

4. Whitelist the League of Legends on Windows Defender

Due to League of Legends’ online nature, tens of requests are communicated between your device and Riot servers every second. Wide-scale communications can cause Windows Defender’s firewall or your antivirus to consider this activity harmful and block the connection after a certain number of requests.

To rule out this possibility, you should whitelist League of Legends from Windows Defender. Our guide on whitelisting apps in Windows Defender can help you do that. If you are using third-party antivirus software, consult its documentation to work out how to whitelist League of Legends.

You will need to whitelist the EXE file, so here is the path to the executable:

C:/Riot Games/League of Legends/

If whitelisting the app doesn’t help, the problem lies with the client files.

5. Repair Any Corrupt Game Files

It’s common for game files to corrupt occasionally, and this, in turn, can cause instability. Fortunately, you can perform an automatic game repair to check for any bad files. Here’s how:

  1. Launch the League of Legends client.
  2. Click the gear icon in the top-right corner to open Settings.
  3. From the left sidebar, select the General tab.
  4. Then click on the Initiate Full Repair button.Running a Full Repair of League of Legends Client
  5. Afterward, follow the on-screen instructions to fix your files.

6. Report the Problem to Riot Games

Have none of the above fixes worked, and your game still disconnects randomly? Report the problem to Riot support. The support team will help you identify and resolve the root cause. All you need to do is to submit a ticket on the League of Legends support website.

If the support team asks about logs, run the Hextech Repair tool and send the data over.

Fix the League of Legends Disconnecting Issue

Disconnecting from your game when you are about to defeat your friends can be extremely frustrating. Hopefully, the fixes in this article will help you fix this annoying problem and establish a stable connection to Riot servers. If nothing works, reinstall the game.

Trolls may be the bane of the internet, but they shouldn’t ruin your day. Learn to purge online trolls and prevent them from returning.

The trolls have moved out of their caves and onto the internet.

Unlike the mythological creatures of early Scandinavian folklore, online trolls are real, and dealing with them is never a fun experience.

An internet troll, as defined by Wikipedia, is:

“a person who posts inflammatory, insincere, digressive, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog), with the intent of provoking readers into displaying emotional responses, or manipulating others’ perception.”

Put simply, an internet troll is someone who takes great pleasure in being an insufferable jerk online.

The more people they tick off, the better. Trolls thrive on sarcasm and insults, and they’ve been around for as long as the internet has existed.

Unfortunately, the trolls of today have escalated into a much more malicious force of hate than the original jokesters that were prevalent back in the ’90s. Now, 41% of Americans have experienced some form of online harassment.

What’s more, the number of severe encounters such as cyberbullying, physical threats, stalking, sexual harassment, etc. have sadly become more common.

That’s why today’s topic is necessary.

In this post, you’ll see how to know you’re facing an internet troll, and find a list of tips to add to your arsenal so you’re ready to handle the nonsense right away and protect your peace of mind.

Warning Signs You’re Dealing with an Internet Troll

Some of the warning signs that you’re dealing with a troll include:

  • Blindness to evidence: Trolls are notorious for ignoring facts and either doubling down on their stance or redirecting to a new topic altogether.
  • Name-calling: Internet trolls aren’t known for their creativity. They’ll often latch onto the latest trending insult and use it in every situation. Hello, “Karen.”
  • Topic redirects: This is an old-school trolling technique that’s still around today on chats and forums. Trolls enjoy making off-topic remarks to try and distract posters from the discussion. They’ll also post unrelated images or memes.
  • Condescending tone: “Why you mad, bro?” Trolls love to stoke the fire and then act dismissive when people become angry, which only triggers more frustration. And they know it.
  • Over exaggerating: While most people use words that aren’t absolute, there’s no middle ground for trolls. Everything has to be on the extreme end of the spectrum. Instead of saying “often” or “sometimes,” they’ll say “always” or “never.”

There’s something about the anonymity of the internet that brings out the worst in trolls.

Most of them wouldn’t dare engage in a direct face-to-face confrontation. But through the computer screen, there aren’t any real consequences to make them think twice about letting their inner nastiness out.

Defeat Internet Trolls with These 10 Techniques

Trolls aren’t picky – they’ll target individuals, businesses, celebrities, politicians… you name it. If you’re on the internet, you’re fair game for a troll.

Here’s how you can shut them down.

1. Don’t Feed the Trolls

The classic internet adage still holds merit. Trolls thrive on emotional responses to their provocation.

It can be difficult to restrain yourself but don’t add fuel to the fire.

If you don’t engage, the troll will hopefully move on.

2. Be the Boss! No Trolls Allowed

If you’re in charge of a platform — whether it’s your social media profile, discussion forum, blog, etc. — you need a list of clear guidelines that includes a “no trolling” policy.

Implementing these rules establishes impartiality. If someone is angry that their comment was deleted, you can point back to your policy and cite a violation as the cause of the removal.

For example, see how the Library of Congress set clear guidelines in their comment and posting policy:

3. Add Moderators to Your Roster

Managing a single, small-scale blog or social media profile is one thing, but if you have hundreds or even thousands of posts and a major troll infestation, it’s time to call in backup!

A team of moderators is a worthwhile investment if you aren’t able to keep up with the troll onslaught yourself.

They can verify comments and deal with policy violators so you can focus your attention on other tasks.

If you don’t have the resources or funds to hire moderators, look into some of the tools available on various platforms:

  • Facebook’s comment moderation plugin.
  • YouTube’s comment settings for automatic moderation.
  • Twitter’s reporting option for abusive tweets.
  • Instagram’s reporting option for policy violations.
  • WordPress’s comment moderation tools.
  • Other blog tools such as Disqus and IntenseDebate, which are two of the most popular.

4. If You Can’t Ignore the Trolls, Call Their B.S.

Trolls aren’t interested in having civilized, rational conversations. Their arguments aren’t logical, and they’re certainly not strong debaters.

Stay calm and simply ask for facts and sources to back up their unsubstantiated claims.

Chances are, they won’t have any, and they’ll sputter into silence. All they really wanted was a heated, passionate debate, and you denied them that.

Every time they make a wild statement, counter it with a polite request for evidence.

5. Kill Them with Kindness

It’s hard to respond to hate with kindness. But since trolls are usually looking for a fight, reacting with an opposite approach often stops them in their tracks.

One particularly uplifting example was posted on Funny Side of Tumblr. An exchange started with a furious mother attacking someone for “making her child sick” because the youth was exploring their gender identity.

Rather than reciprocate the anger by becoming defensive, the user responded with kindness, even complimenting and ultimately connecting with the upset mother and answering her questions.

What started with, “My child is sick due to you!” drew to a close with, “Bless you, if I have more questions I can ask you.”

Tumblr users showed appreciation for the way the situation was diffused:

It’s worth noting that this shouldn’t be your expected outcome. In this case, the aggressiveness came from a place of fear and confusion, but in most other instances, trolls aren’t going to come around.

Still, it doesn’t hurt to show a little kindness. You might make a difference in someone’s life.

This conversation would have ended a lot differently if anger had been met with more anger.

6. Disarm Them with Humor

Much like with kindness, trolls aren’t usually equipped to respond to humor. Their goal is to make people mad, not make them laugh.

Laughter is troll kryptonite.

The brand has become well-known for its tongue-in-cheek humor when responding to trolls.

However, be cautious with a humorous approach. It’s easy to cross the line and become offensive in the eyes of your audience.

7. Have Friends-Only Social Profiles

This solution is pretty cut-and-dried. If you don’t want random trolls commenting on your posts, keep them private.

Obviously, this won’t work if you’re a business, influencer, or someone who needs to reach the public, but it’s an easy way to keep your personal profile safe.

On Twitter, you can make your account private by going through More > Settings and privacy > your account (you’ll have to put in your password again) > Protected Tweets.

You can also update photo tagging options.

On Facebook, you can run a privacy checkup to update your settings. Click the drop-down arrow, then Settings & Privacy > Privacy Checkup.

Remember that you can also set individual posts for private, friends, friends with exceptions, specific friends, only you, or customized visibility.

8. Block, Ban, or Report Trolls

While this option is more tedious, it’s sometimes necessary if you have a troll that just won’t stop.

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and most other social media platforms give you the option to report a post for being abusive, among other options like unfollowing the person who posted it.

9. Decompress Before You Reply

Remember – a troll’s goal is to make you and other people upset. Don’t let them achieve their goal.

Before you type a response, try this:

  • Take a deep breath.
  • Walk away for a few minutes (minimum).
  • Remind yourself it’s not personal, and it’s not worth getting upset.

When you’re composed enough to return and address the issue, try to keep a clear, open mind.

Replying when you’re angry isn’t going to end in a peaceful resolution.

10. Stay Professional

One of the worst errors you can make is confusing an unhappy customer for a troll and responding in an unprofessional manner. Stay calm and factual.

If someone is complaining about your business, apologize and try to redirect the conversation to a private channel so the issues can be resolved outside of the public’s scrutiny.

If someone is nitpicking a typo or other minor mistake, thank them for pointing out the error, fix it, and then don’t engage any further.

Whether you’re answering a troll or a real customer, remember that your comments are public, and the rest of the community is watching. In most cases, people are less concerned with what the problem was and more with how you handled it.

Trolls are only as big as We Make Them

Internet trolls thrive on drama.

If you stoop to their level, they’re winning.

It’s not about being right or wrong. If you stop engaging the trolls, you’re taking the oxygen away from their fire.

Take the high road, and leave the trolls far below.

We live in a digital age and without working high-speed internet, we cannot perform our daily tasks. There are tons of providers available in the market. However, choosing the right one for your home or business is a difficult task. All of them offer similar plans, internet speeds, and plans but may vary on the pricing. If you are doing this for the first time, you might get confused about the technical jargon surrounding the internet. Therefore, you need expert advice on how to find the best cable TV, internet, and phone provider in your area.

Cable services use a complex network of coaxial cables. This network is already spread throughout the United States making it accessible for the people to get the services. Your area might have a dozen providers operating. Since this decision impacts your day to day activities, therefore, it is crucial to make the right one. Otherwise, you may face long call queues in the customer service or technical departments.

To address this issue, we came up with a comprehensive guide on finding the best cable TV, phone, and internet providers in your area:

Understand your usage requirements

Every household is different and your usage requirements may differ accordingly. The first step in finding the best cable TV and broadband provider is understanding how your family uses the internet and cable. If you have a basic usage that involves watching the basic TV channels such as FOX News, BBC America, CNN, or CNBC plus you need a basic internet for emails and work, you need the most basic plan for your household.

If you often download movies, online gaming is your routine, you spend most of your weekends’ binge-watching TV shows on Netflix, and on top, you want all the exclusive action from the world of NBA and NFL, get a premium plan. You have a high-end usage that involves excessive download and streaming. Therefore, a download speed up to 100 Mbps is the minimum speed you should get.

How to look for a provider?

There are many ways to look for a provider. For a start, check out the popular providers in your area. Providers like Spectrum has services in more than 41 states. Just go to the website and there is a menu that allows you to search for the Spectrum silver package and deals in your area. It prompts you to enter your zip code and address. If your address is serviceable by the provider, it will show all the exclusive discounts and promotions in the area. If these are not, many websites allow you to search a provider using your zip code. Check for these websites.

Research the provider

Once you are done selecting the provider and a plan, do a little bit of research. Ask your friends, family, and most importantly neighbors about their experience with the provider. If not that, look up the reviews online.

Ways to sign-up

Cable providers offer numerous ways of signing up for the service. The easiest way is by calling customer service. The benefit of calling the provider directly is that you get hands-on information regarding the promotion, its validity, surcharges, equipment rental, and charges for the DVR. This will help you to clear any confusions you have in the plan.

Secondly, if you don’t want to talk to someone over the phone like me, just go on to the provider’s website and place an order. Select the package first and then add your First Name, Last Name, Service and Billing Address, and other information required. Many providers may ask for personal information such as date of birth and social security number. There are credit checks as well. Always confirm whether that credit check is hard or soft. A credit check may allow you to avail some extra discounts. If your credit check isn’t good, you may have to pay some or the entire amount upfront.

You can even visit the store and sign-up for the services.

Final Verdict

Take your time, understand your usage requirements, and most importantly sign-up for the plan that fits the budget. Compare different websites and choose the most discounted plans in your area.
