What is ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is a natural language processing tool driven by AI technology that allows you to have human-like conversations and much more with the chatbot. The language model can answer questions and assist you with tasks like composing emails, essays, and code.

ChatGPT was created by OpenAI, an AI and research company. The company launched ChatGPT on Nov. 30, 2022.

OpenAI is also responsible for creating DALL-E-2, a popular AI art generator, and Whisper, an automatic speech recognition system.

It’s made a big splash.

“ChatGPT is scary good. We are not far from dangerously strong AI,” said Elon Musk, who was one of the founders of OpenAI before leaving. Sam Altman, OpenAI’s chief, said on Twitter that ChatGPT had more than 1 million users in the first five days after it launched.

According to an analysis by Swiss bank UBS, ChatGPT is the fastest-growing app of all time. The analysis estimates that ChatGPT had 100 million active users in January, only two months after its launch. For comparison, it took nine months for TikTok to reach 100 million.

You can access ChatGPT simply by visiting chat.openai.com and creating an OpenAI account.

Once you sign in, you can start chatting away with ChatGPT. Get your conversation started by asking a question. Because ChatGPT is still in its research stage, it is free to use and you can ask as many questions as you’d like.

ChatGPT is still free to use. Because of the stir its advanced capabilities have made, many people are flocking to use it. The website operates using a server, and when too many people hop onto the server, it overloads and can’t process your request. This doesn’t mean you won’t ever be able to access it. It just means you should try visiting the site at a later time when fewer people are trying to access it. You can also keep the tab open and just refresh it periodically.

If you want to skip the wait and have reliable access, there is an option for you. As of Feb. 1, OpenAI has a ChatGPT pro plan, ChatGPT Plus, which allows users to have general access even during peak times, experience faster response times, and have priority access to new features and improvements including OpenAI’s most advanced LLM, GPT-4. The premium services cost $20 per month.

The model has many functions in addition to answering simple questions. ChatGPT can compose essays, describe art in great detail, create AI art prompts, have philosophical conversations, and even code for you.

My personal favorite is asking the chatbot for help creating basic lists such as packing, grocery, and to-do lists to make my daily life more productive. The possibilities are endless.

ChatGPT runs on a language model architecture created by OpenAI called the Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT). The specific GPT used by ChatGPT is fine-tuned from a model in the GPT-3.5 series, according to OpenAI. However, with a subscription to ChatGPT Plus, you can access ChatGPT with GPT-4, Open AI’s most advanced model.

Generative AI models of this type are trained on vast amounts of information from the internet, including websites, books, news articles, and more.

The language model was fine-tuned using supervised learning as well as reinforcement learning. The use of Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF) is what makes ChatGPT especially unique. Through RLHF, human AI trainers provided the model with conversations in which they played both parts, the user and AI assistants, according to OpenAI.

ChatGPT is a language model created to hold a conversation with the end user. A search engine indexes web pages on the internet to help the user find the information they asked for. ChatGPT does not have the ability to search the internet for information. It uses the information it learned from training data to generate a response, which leaves room for error.

Another major difference is that ChatGPT only has access to information up to 2021, whereas a regular search engine like Google has access to the latest information. So if you ask ChatGPT who won the World Cup in 2022, it wouldn’t be able to give you a response as Google would.

Despite looking very impressive, ChatGPT still has limitations. Such limitations include the inability to answer questions that are worded in a specific way, as it requires rewording to understand the input question. A bigger limitation is a lack of quality in the responses it delivers — which can sometimes be plausible-sounding but make no practical sense or can be excessively verbose.

Instead of asking for clarification on ambiguous questions, the model just guesses what your question means, which can lead to unintended responses to questions. Already this has led developer question-and-answer site StackOverflow to at least temporarily ban ChatGPT-generated responses to questions.

“The primary problem is that while the answers that ChatGPT produces have a high rate of being incorrect, they typically look like they might be good and the answers are very easy to produce,” says Stack Overflow moderators in a post. Critics argue that these tools are just very good at putting words into an order that makes sense from a statistical point of view, but they cannot understand the meaning or know whether the statements it makes are correct.

Another major limitation is that ChatGPT’s data is limited to 2021. The chatbot does not have an awareness of events or news that have occurred since then. Therefore, some prompts will render no results, such as “Who won the World Cup in 2022?”

Lastly, ChatGPT does not provide sources for its responses. So you will never know exactly where the chatbot pulled its information from and can’t verify its accuracy by visiting the original source.

Although some people are using ChatGPT for some elaborate functions such as writing code or even malware, you can use ChatGPT for more mundane activities like having a friendly conversation.

Some conversation starters could be as simple as “I am hungry, what food should I get?” or as elaborate as, “What do you think happens in the afterlife?” Either way, ChatGPT is sure to have an answer for you.

People are expressing concerns about AI chatbots replacing or atrophying human intelligence. For example, the chatbot can write an article on any topic efficiently (though not necessarily accurately) within seconds, potentially eliminating the need for a human writer. The chatbot can also write an entire full essay within seconds, making it easier for students to cheat or avoid learning how to write properly. This has led to some school districts blocking access to it.

Another concern with the AI chatbot is the possible spread of misinformation. Since the bot is not connected to the internet, it could make mistakes in what information it shares.

The bot itself says, “My responses are not intended to be taken as fact, and I always encourage people to verify any information they receive from me or any other source.” OpenAI itself also notes that ChatGPT sometimes writes “plausible-sounding but incorrect or nonsensical answers.”

With concerns about students using ChatGPT to cheat, the need for a ChatGPT text detector is becoming more evident. OpenAI, the AI research company behind ChatGPT, released an imperfect, free tool to target this problem. OpenAI’s “classifier” tool can only correctly identify 26% of AI-written text with a “likely AI-written” designation. Furthermore, it provides false positives 9% of the time, incorrectly identifying human-written work as AI written.

Other AI detectors also exist on the market including GPT-2 Output Detector, Writer AI Content Detector, and Content at Scale AI Content Detection. However, ZDNET put all three of these tools to the test and the results were underwhelming. All three of the tools were found to be unreliable sources for spotting AI, repeatedly giving false negatives. Here are ZDNET’s full test results.

Although tools aren’t sufficient to detect ChatGPT-generated writing, a study shows that humans may be able to detect it by looking for politeness within the text. The study’s results indicate that ChatGPT’s writing style is extremely polite. And unlike humans, it cannot produce responses that include metaphors, irony, or sarcasm.

ChatGPT is an advanced chatbot that has the potential to make people’s lives easier and to assist with everyday tedious tasks, such as writing emails or navigating the web for answers. However, certain technical details have to be figured out before it’s widely used to prevent negative outcomes such as the spread of misinformation. In general, AI and ML models rely on lots of training and fine-tuning to reach a level of ideal performance.

Does it mean that AI is taking over the world? Not yet, perhaps, but OpenAI’s Altman certainly thinks that human-style intelligence in AI is now not that far off. Responding to Musk’s comment about dangerously strong AI, Altman tweeted: “I agree on being close to dangerously strong AI in the sense of an AI that poses e.g. a huge cybersecurity risk. and i think we could get to real AGI in the next decade, so we have to take the risk of that extremely seriously too.”

He also noted: “interesting watching people start to debate whether powerful AI systems should behave in the way users want or their creators intend. the question of whose values we align these systems to will be one of the most important debates society ever has.”

GPT-4 is the newest version of OpenAI’s language model systems, and it is much more advanced than its predecessor GPT-3.5, which ChatGPT runs on.

GPT-4 is a multimodal model that accepts both text and images as input and outputs text. This can be useful for uploading worksheets, graphs, and charts to be analyzed.

Currently, GPT-4’s text input capabilities are the only ones available to the public. Users can access them by subscribing to ChatGPT Plus for $20 per month or by using Bing Chat.

The day that GPT-4 was unveiled by OpenAI, Microsoft shared that its chatbot, Bing Chat, had been running on GPT-4 since its launch. This chatbot is free to use but requires users to join a waitlist for access.

GPT-4 has advanced intellectual capabilities that allow it to outperform GPT-3.5 in a series of simulated benchmark exams. It has also reduced the number of hallucinations produced by the chatbot.

Although ChatGPT is the chatbot getting all the buzz right now, there are other options that are just as good and might even be better suited for your needs.

Despite ChatGPT’s extensive abilities, there are some major downsides to the AI chatbot, including that the free version is often at capacity. If you want to give the world of AI chatbots and writers a try, there are plenty of other options to consider, including Bing Chat, YouChat, Jasper, and Chatsonic.

Yes, ChatGPT is capable of passing a series of benchmark exams. A professor at Wharton, the University of Pennsylvania’s business school, used ChatGPT to take an MBA exam and the results were quite impressive.

ChatGPT not only passed the exam but also scored a whopping B to  B-. The professor, Christian Terwiesch, was impressed at its basic operations management, process analysis questions, and explanations.

OpenAI also tested the chatbot’s ability to pass benchmark exams. Although ChatGPT could pass many of these benchmark exams, its scores were usually in the lower percentile. However, with GPT-4, ChatGPT can score much higher.

For example, ChatGPT in the 3.5 series scored in the lower 10th percentile of a simulated Bar Exam, while GPT-4 scored in the top 10th percentile. More examples from OpenAI are seen in the chart below.

ChatGPT-4 capabilities

ChatGPT’s first appearance in the social media space is its collaboration with Snapchat. On Feb. 7, Snapchat unveiled an integration of ChatGPT which will allow Snapchat+ subscribers to chat with the bot within its app.

The feature, called “My AI”, will include some ChatGPT limitations, including the refusal to provide responses about politics, violence, swearing, and even academic essay writing, according to The Verge.

Microsoft was an early investor in OpenAI, the AI research company behind ChatGPT, long before ChatGPT was released to the public. Microsoft’s first involvement with OpenAI was in 2019 when Microsoft invested $1 billion, and then $2 billion in the years after. In January, Microsoft extended its partnership with OpenAI through a multi-year, multi-billion dollar investment.

Neither company disclosed the investment value, but sources revealed it will total $10 billion over multiple years, according to Bloomberg. In return, Microsoft’s Azure service will be OpenAI’s exclusive cloud computing provider, powering all OpenAI workloads across research, products, and API services.

Microsoft has also used its partnership with OpenAI to revamp its own Bing search engine and improve its browser. On Feb. 7, Microsoft unveiled a new Bing search engine that runs on a next-generation OpenAI large language model customized specifically for search.

Access to Bing’s AI-powered chatbot, Bing Chat, is currently limited. However, ZDNET was granted early access and was impressed with the results.

In early February, Microsoft unveiled a new version of Bing — and its standout feature is its integration with ChatGPT. When it was announced, Microsoft shared that Bing Chat was powered by a next-generation version of OpenAI’s large language model, making it “more powerful than ChatGPT”.

Five weeks after launch, Microsoft revealed that since its launch, Bing Chat had been running on GPT-4, the most advanced Open AI model, before the model even launched.

Because Bing’s ChatGPT is linked to the internet, the biggest difference from ChatGPT is that Bing’s version has information on current events. Another major advantage of the new Bing is that it links back to the sources it pulls information from, leaving less room for misinformation.

Bard is Google’s AI chat service, a rival to ChatGPT. On Feb. 6, Google introduced its experimental AI chat service. Over a month since the announcement, Google began rolling out access to Bard via a waitlist.

Bard uses a lightweight version of Google’s Language Model for Dialogue Applications (LaMDA) and draws on all the information from the web to respond — a stark contrast from ChatGPT, which does not have internet access.

Google’s chat service has had a rough launch, with a demo of Bard delivering inaccurate information about the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST).

Google told ZDNET reporter Stephanie Condon, “This highlights the importance of a rigorous testing process, something that we’re kicking off this week with our Trusted Tester program,” in a statement.

Since Google began rolling out the chatbot, ZDNET had the opportunity to test the chatbot and the results were surprising — in a bad way.

As of Feb.1, ChatGPT offers a paid subscription model called ChatGPT Plus. With the chatbot’s skyrocketing popularity, it was only a matter of time before OpenAI rolled out a paid subscription model.

The pro plan gives users general access even during peak times when the free version is at capacity. Users will also experience faster response times and have priority access to new features and improvements including access to GPT-4. The premium services come at a cost of $20 per month.

The launch of a paid version had been rumored before the official release. In January, OpenAI announced on its Discord server that it was considering to start charging for ChatGPT with a version called ChatGPT Professional.

OpenAI uploaded a waitlist for access to the pro service on Discord. The waitlist outlined that the new service would provide users with service that is always available (no blackout windows), fast responses from ChatGPT, and unlimited messages. While the cost for this service has not been announced, one of the survey questions on the waitlist form asks what price per month the user would consider paying for ChatGPT Pro.

An early access user, shared a video on Twitter running a test prompt on the pro version that ran much quicker than the free version the rest of the public has access to. In the video, Khawaja showed his subscription cost, which was $42 per month. Now we know the actual cost OpenAI set for this plan is about half the early access user’s cost.

Choosing a name for your YouTube channel is the first step in building a successful YouTube presence.

In this post, you’ll learn how to choose a channel name to stand out from the crowd, how to change your channel name (if you already have one), and the difference between a channel name and a channel URL.

What is a YouTube Channel Name?

A YouTube channel name is the name you choose to represent your brand on YouTube. It is shown on your YouTube channel page, on YouTube search, on Google Search results, and below your videos. A channel name can be translated into different languages and it’s different from your channel’s URL.

Best Practices for Picking a Great YouTube Name

  1. Pick a name that represents your brand
  2. Use the same name across all your social media profiles
  3. Your name should be unique, short, and memorable
  4. Choose a name that adheres to YouTube community guidelines
  5. Select a name that is easy to pronounce and avoid using numbers

1. Pick a name that represents your brand

Your channel name should be representative of your brand. This is the most important factor to consider. Your brand can be a company name, your own personal name, your ‘stage name’, or something specific to your niche.

Let’s see some examples of each.

For known brands having their brand name as their YouTube channel name is enough.

Take for example Adidas, their YouTube channel name is the same as their brand name.

If you want to build your personal brand on Youtube, you can use your first name and surname as your channel name.

Here is an example from a famous tech Youtuber, Marques Brownlee.

If you want to use a stage name instead (i.e not your real name), you can easily do so. Here is an example from The Everyday Dad.

If your Youtube channel is about a specific topic, you can choose a name that represents what your videos will be about.

For example,  Relax My Dog – Relaxing Music for Dogs YouTube channel is all about videos for relaxing your dog and this is represented accurately in the channel name.

Notice how the channel name includes additional information to specify exactly what kind of content you are expected to find in this channel.

2.  Use the same name across all your social media profiles

The second tip for you is social media consistency. It’s always a good practice to use the same name across all your social media handles and websites.

So, before choosing a name for your Youtube channel, make sure that this is available on the major social media networks – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok.

If your chosen name is available on Youtube but already taken on other networks, then it’s better to come up with something available on all channels to avoid confusing your brand with other brands or people.

Even if you don’t plan on expanding your presence on the web, it is highly recommended to secure a domain name that it’s the same as your to be Youtube channel name. This way you’ll protect your brand from fakers and spammers.

You can use a domain name checker to check the availability and register a domain name first and then create a YouTube channel and other social media profiles.

3. Your name should be unique, short, and memorable

As mentioned above, choosing a unique name is very important. Uniqueness will make it easier for users to find your channel when searching on Google or YouTube and it’s an essential element for building brand awareness for your channel.

The best way to check if your chosen name is unique is to do a thorough search on YouTube and Google before making a decision.

Besides having a unique name, it’s equally important to choose something that is short (3 words max) and easy to remember.

If you decide not to use your own name and go with a brand name, then combining your channel’s topic with catchy words helps make your channel name memorable.

Here are some great examples of catchy Youtube channel names to get some inspiration:

  • 5-Minute Crafts
  • The Everyday Dad
  • Unbox Therapy
  • Be Inspired
  • Body Hub
  • Silicon Valley Girl
  • Motivation Core

4. Choose a name that adheres to YouTube community guidelines

YouTube has a set of community guidelines that cover everything that is happening on YouTube (content, users, comments, etc) including channel names.

To avoid any issues, do not use someone’s else brand name in your channel name, and make sure that you do not use any offensive words.

5. Select a name that is easy to pronounce and avoid using numbers

Last but not least, choose a name that is easy to pronounce and spell. As your channel starts to grow, other YouTubers may reference it on their videos and you want something that it’s easy to say or mention in writing.

Also, avoid using numbers. In the majority of cases numbers as part of a YouTube, channel name make it look spam, autogenerated, and hard to remember.

How to Find Great YouTube Channel Name Ideas?

One of the best ways to find ideas for naming your Youtube channel is to use Youtube search.

Go to Youtube and start searching for anything that comes to mind and take note of how other people name their channels. What channel names attract your attention and why? Try to use the same patterns when deciding on the name to use.

You can also view this list of the most popular YouTube channels to get more ideas.

If you are looking for inspiration, you can use one of the free YouTube name generators to get hundreds of suggestions for names you can use. Just make sure to double-check that the recommended names meet the criteria above before naming your channel.

One option is weshare and another option is business name generator.

Visit one of the tools, enter at least two words in the search box and get some great ideas for naming your channel.

How to Change Your YouTube Channel Name?

Changing or renaming your Youtube channel name is easy and straightforward. Follow these steps:

  • Sign in to YouTube Studio or visit your channel page and click the Customize Channel
  • From the left menu, select the Customization option and then click on Basic info.
  • Click the Edit button to change your channel name.
  • Enter your new channel description.
  • Once you are done, click PUBLISH to save your changes.

Note that if you already have a YouTube verification badge (awarded to channels with more than 100K subscribers), you’ll have to re-apply for channel verification after a name change.

Also, if you have used channel translations to make your channel name available in different languages, you need to change it there as well.

YouTube Channel Name Vs YouTube URL

A YouTube channel name is different from the YouTube channel URL. The URL is shown on the browser address bar only and does not show on your channel’s home page or videos.

When you create a new YouTube channel, Youtube will create a channel URL that includes your unique channel ID. It looks something like this:

This is hard to remember or share so it’s better to use the custom URL feature to make your channel URL friendlier to users. For consistency reasons, try to create a custom URL that matches your channel name.

For example, adidas have changed its channel URL to match its channel name.

You can access the Custom URL feature by going to YouTube Studio, Customization, and Basic Info.

Conclusion

Choosing a great name for your YouTube channel it’s easy. Pick a name that is representative of your brand, easy to remember, unique and catchy.

Although changing a channel name is possible, it’s best to stick with a name from the beginning and build your YouTube brand.

Are you planning to start a business in Ohio? Do you have a business idea that you’re sure will turn a profit? The state is rife with an entrepreneurial spirit. It has a robust small business community featuring hundreds of thousands of companies. These small businesses employ almost half of the state’s population.

If you’re ready to start a business in Ohio, then this state-specific guide outlines the key steps you’ll take.

Benefits of Opening a Business in Ohio

There are numerous benefits to starting a business in Ohio. One of the most significant advantages of business ownership in the state is the favorable tax benefits.

Ohio Business Tax Benefits

Ohio has some terrific tax benefits. The state government doesn’t levy a corporate income tax, and it provides a 75% tax reduction for many small businesses on a company’s first $250,000 in revenue.

Ohio has opportunities for any Business Type

Over the last decade or so, Ohio has quietly become a hotbed for tech startups, being home to companies that create everything from connected cars to health care products. However, any type of business can make it big in Ohio, so check out the landscape to see if your idea can grow into a very profitable opportunity.

If you’re ready to start a business in Ohio, then check out our guide below to get started!

Step 1: Create a Business Plan for your Ohio business

Every business in Ohio needs a business plan. A business plan explains how the company will be structured, how it will operate, and how it will generate income.

What to Include in your business plan

There are many business plan templates available online, but most include a company overview to explain your specific type of business, a list of SMART goals, and an analysis of competition.

You’ll also want to explain the company’s target customers, how you plan to attract them, and the profit margins you’ll set.

Research Tax Breaks and Local Grants in Ohio

When you write a business plan, also include a look at state-specific tax breaks and local grants. Ohio has a list of funding assistance for small businesses you can refer to.

Need help creating a business plan for your Ohio business? We put together a comprehensive library of articles and guides on business planning.

Step 2: Choose a Business Structure

One of the first decisions an Ohio entrepreneur must consider is choosing a business structure, meaning you’ll have to decide which type of business entity your company will be. There are several different business entity types, but the sole proprietorship and limited liability company (LLC) are among the most popular startup choices.

Sole Proprietorship in Ohio

sole proprietorship is a free, no-fuss business entity that entitles the company owner to all profits. It’s an unincorporated option, which means it’s not registered with the state, and the owner can be held personally liable for debts.

Limited Liability Company (LLC) in Ohio

An LLC is registered with the state. LLC formation paperwork is known as the Articles of Organization. These documents must be filed with the Ohio Secretary of State, which includes a fee. The most significant benefit of an LLC is its liability protection.

The owner’s assets are separate from the business, so if the company is sued or ends up in debt, its assets are protected. This liability protection makes LLCs a very attractive business model.

Still not sure what business structure to choose for your business in Ohio? Get 100% certain by reading this guide.

Step 3: Create a Business Name in Ohio

Do you already have a business name in mind? In Ohio, as in many states, no two companies can have the same business name. Perform a business name search on the Ohio Secretary of State’s website.

Business Name Rules

Ohio has specific rules about how you should choose a business name. Your company name cannot have inappropriate language in it or reference a branch of government like the Internal Revenue Service. For a closer look at the rules, refer to the Ohio Guide to Name Availability.

Is your business name taken?

Validate your Ohio business nameEnter your desired business name

Reserving a Business Name

The state also gives you the ability to reserve a business name for 180 days before filing incorporation papers. We can also do this for you. And if you’re considering a business trademark but haven’t fully come around to the idea, learn why you should.

Consider a Domain Name

As you brainstorm ideas, consider looking into a domain name for a potential business website. It’s best to choose a domain name that’s either the same or very close to your business name.

You can streamline the process by registering your domain name with us.

Step 4: Register Your Ohio Business and Open Financial Accounts

If you’re ready to turn your business idea into a reality, register your business structure with the state of Ohio. For an LLC, you’ll file LLC formation papers and pay a filing fee. Here are some things to consider as a business owner.

Get an Employer Identification Number (EIN)

Most businesses require a federal employer identification number (EIN) issued by the Internal Revenue Service for federal tax purposes. You’ll also register your business with the Ohio Department of Taxation, which you can do through the Ohio Business Gateway. You can get an EIN with us.

Get Business Insurance

Look into business insurance policies. The state suggests that all startups look into liability, business, and auto insurance in its guide, Starting Your Business in Ohio.

Get a Business Bank Account

You can benefit from having a bank account to keep track of your business income and business expenses. In Ohio, there are many banking options that can provide terrific perks for your business.

Do a little digging around to find one that’s best for you. These banks should also provide business credit cards to help with funding.

Obtain a Business License and/or Permit

Depending on the type of business and which industry you’re going into, it’s important to secure all necessary business licenses and/or permits. Do a bit of research on what you’ll need.

Step 5: Market Your Ohio Business

Many Ohio businesses use a combination of digital and traditional tactics for marketing. Your marketing strategy will almost always revolve around your target customers. Every business owner should consider marketing their business in some form to grow a customer base. Here are some suggestions.

Using Social Media

Social media is a popular avenue for business marketing, but who you’ll market to depends on which social media brand you’ll use.

If you’re trying to market to Ohio’s younger and middle-aged crowd, you’ll probably lean heavily on social media channels like Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat. But if you want to attract Ohio’s growing senior sector, consider using Facebook.

Another way to market your business and stay plugged into the community is to join Facebook groups like Ohio Small Business Owners.

Registering with Online Directories

Provided you’re opening a brick-and-mortar shop in Ohio, register its location with online directories like Google My Business so your business will start appearing in local searches. Do a little more research to find other options that can be helpful.

Finding a Marketing Firm

There are several top-rated marketing firms in the state that can help you put together a complete marketing and advertising strategy for your Ohio business.

Marketing a new business takes time and planning here are some great actionable ideas for marketing your business.

Step 6: Examples of Good Businesses to Start in Ohio

Instagram is a powerful marketing tool for your business. Here’s how to make the most of it.
  • Instagram is a popular social media platform that can also serve as a valuable business marketing tool.
  • Create a business account on Instagram, and then use photos, live videos, and hashtags to market your business.
  • Advertise your business through Instagram ads and use the platform’s sales function to sell your products.
  • This article is for small business owners and marketers who want to use Instagram to grow and market their businesses.

Instagram is a leading photo-based social media platform, but it does more than keep you up to date on your friends’ adventures. Influencers and small businesses use Instagram as a tool for audience connection, engagement and sales.

Instagram’s robust business features are available only if you create a business or creator account. We’ll explore setting up your Instagram business account and show you how to take advantage of Instagram’s top connection, engagement and sales tools.

How to create an Instagram business account

If you don’t already have an Instagram account, you’ll create a personal account and convert it to a business profile. If you already have an Instagram account, it’s easy to convert it to a business account.

Create a new Instagram account.

If you don’t already have an Instagram account, here’s what to do:

  1. Download the Instagram mobile app for iOS, Android or Windows Phone on your smartphone or tablet. (You can also access Instagram via a web browser, but its functions are limited.)
  2. Tap Sign up.
  3. Enter your email address. Ideally, use your business email or an email designated for your business’s social media accounts. You can also log in with Facebook if you already have a business account there.
  4. Choose a username and password.
  5. You now have a “personal” Instagram account that you can convert to a business profile.

Convert your personal Instagram profile to a business profile.

Once you have a personal account, it’s easy to convert it to a business profile.

  1. Open Instagram and tap your profile picture on the bottom right.
  2. Tap Menu (three lines) on the top right.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Tap Account.
  5. Scroll down and tap Switch to Professional Account > Continue.
  6. Select the business category that most accurately represents your organization.
  7. Tap Done.
  8. Tap Business > Next. (Or tap Creator if you’re a content producer or influencer.)
  9. Review your public business contact info and make any necessary edits. Tap Next.
  10. Optionally, tap Login to Facebook and follow the prompts. Instagram recommends you connect to your Facebook Business Page to take full advantage of Instagram’s business tools, such as boosting your posts and stories and setting up shopping on Instagram.
  11. Follow the steps for setting up your professional account, including completing your profile, choosing other businesses to follow on Instagram, inviting friends to follow your account, and exploring professional tools like Insights (analytics about how your content is doing) and ad creation.
  12.  Tap Done to finish creating your professional profile.

How to use Instagram for business

Between posts, ads and stories, there’s no shortage of potential small business marketing tools on Instagram. Here are some basics to help you start using Instagram for business.

1. Add professional-looking photos.

Instagram is a photo-sharing social media platform, so it’s essential to share visually engaging content. Generic photos won’t cut it. Take photos, edit them and take time to ensure you’re creating a cohesive grid on Instagram.

To add a new photo post:

  1. Tap Create (plus sign) at the top of your screen.
  2. Select Post.
  3. Tap the camera icon to take a new photo, or select a photo from your camera roll.
  4. Tap Next to choose filters and edit options.
  5. Tap Next and then write a caption, tag people and add a location.
  6. Optionally, choose to share the post to Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr.
  7. Tap Advanced Settings to control like and view count visibility, turn off commenting, and more.
  8. When you’re satisfied, tap Share to share your photo post.

Tip: To prevent copyright infringement on social media sites like Instagram, only post images that you’ve taken yourself or received explicit permission to use.

2. Use Instagram Stories.

Instagram Stories is a popular feature for personal accounts and business profiles. Instagram Stories comprise photos, videos and more that disappear 24 hours after posting them.

Instagram Stories lets you create a vibrant montage that can grab viewers’ attention and present more information than a traditional post. You can use recorded videos, still photos, live videos, boomerangs (videos that loop back and forth), text, music and focused photos.

Add stickers to show your location, the temperature, user tags and hashtags.

Interact with your viewers by creating polls and inviting questions, making it easy to collect valuable feedback. For example, some accounts use the questions feature to hold a weekly Ask Me Anything session, a fun way to answer common questions.

Use Instagram’s Stories Highlights feature to create categorized stores that stay on your profile so viewers can go back and watch them.

3. Stream live videos.

In addition to Instagram Stories, users can take and stream live video that disappears – sort of like a cross between Facebook Live and Snapchat. Give customers a live look behind the scenes of exciting aspects of your business, show products or answer live questions via the comments.

Once the video ends, it lives in your Instagram story for 24 hours. If you want a video to remain on your Instagram feed, upload a video you’ve taken or shoot one directly through the app to post. If you choose to shoot or upload a video, you can still add filters and change the cover.

4. Interact with your followers.

As with any social media platform, it’s crucial to engage and interact with your followers on Instagram.

  • Liking: Liking is an easy way to connect with other users. To like a photo, double-tap the image or tap the heart button under the post.
  • Commenting: To comment on a post, tap the comment icon (speech bubble), and the app will take you to that post’s comments page. Type your comment into the text box, add emojis if you like and tap Post.
  • Mentioning: As on Twitter, use the @ symbol to tag other users in your Instagram comments or post captions. They’ll be alerted to the mention and may circle back and interact more.
  • Tagging: Instagram allows you to add tags before and after posting content. To do so, tap Tag People before sharing your photo, and tap where you want to add the tag in the photo. The app prompts you to type in the person’s name to search for their account. Once you’ve tagged people in your photo and shared the image, other users can tap on the photo to see the tagged people.
  • Direct messaging: To access Instagram Direct, go to your home page and tap the Messenger icon on the top right. (Facebook’s Messenger is integrated into Instagram.) Send private instant messages, including photos and videos, to other users. To send a new direct message, tap the notepad button in the top right corner and search for the person or business you want to contact. Once you’ve sent the message, you and the recipients can message back and forth. Users who are not already following you will be asked whether they want to allow you to send them photos and videos before they can view your DM.

5. Use hashtags.

Hashtags are an excellent way to help users find content on Instagram. Hashtags can include letters and numbers, but they can’t contain any non-numerical characters. For example, #DaveAndBusters works as a hashtag, but #Dave&Busters does not.

Because users can search for hashtags and click on hashtags they see in posts, relevant hashtags can be a highly effective tool for getting noticed. However, ensure you’re using the right hashtags for your brand.

Follow these best practices for hashtags:

  • Use relevant hashtags. Hashtags such as #nofilter (a photo that hasn’t been heavily edited with filters), #selfie (a picture of yourself), and #tbt or #throwbackthursday (old photos) are popular on Instagram, but they may not work for you or your brand. Look at other established brands or users and bloggers in your industry for examples of what hashtags to use.
  • Don’t use excessive hashtags. Instagram allows 30 hashtags in a post or comment (and up to 10 in an Instagram story), but that many would be excessive. The fewer hashtags you can use to get quality responses, the better. Using many popular hashtags might earn you a lot of likes from other users, but it probably won’t increase your following all that much, and the interactions you get will likely not be from people interested in your brand, but rather those who saw and liked your image.
  • Experiment with hashtags. Once you understand hashtags, branch out and experiment to find which ones work best for your brand. It’s also smart to create a custom hashtag for your business or an event you’re hosting. This way, customers can follow along with an event, even if they aren’t there in person.

6. Use Instagram Reels.

Instagram Reels are short, entertaining videos that can help you bring your brand to life. Offer a behind-the-scenes tour, or show how your product is made. Add effects and transitions, tag products from your catalog, showcase paid partnerships, and more.

Reels are an excellent way to create a campaign for a specific target customer or expand on an Instagram story’s product or service focus.

To get started making a Reel, tap Create (plus sign) from your home page and select Reel.

7. Advertise on Instagram.

Like on other social channels, businesses can advertise on Instagram. You have a few options to consider.

To create a new Instagram ad, you choose from three basic formats: photo, video and carousel ads.

  • Photo ads: These look like regular photo posts, but they have a Sponsored label above the photo. They also have a call-to-action button at the bottom right of the photo. Many photo ads are boosted posts, where you pay to amplify an existing post’s reach.
  • Video ads: Like the photo ads, these look like regular video posts but with a Sponsored label on top.
  • Carousel ads: These ads look identical to photo ads but feature multiple photos that users can swipe through.

Of course, you also have other advertising options on Instagram.

  • Instagram Stories ads: Instagram Stories ads appear when users tap through other accounts’ stories. Stories ads use the entire device screen, so ensure you’re using a visually captivating image.
  • Collection ads: Collection ads feature a main image with a product catalog at the bottom. This is an excellent way to invite viewers to explore your products.
  • Explore ads: Explore ads appear on a user’s Explore page, where Instagram presents posts that might appeal to their interests. Explore ads are an excellent way to get your business in front of people likely to be interested in your brand.

When you advertise on Instagram, you can go through the Instagram app or the Facebook Ads Manager (if your account is connected to your business Facebook Page). Both options let you choose your ad’s objective, set an audience base, determine the ad’s budget and set the length of time it will run. Facebook’s Ads manager offers additional configuration, formatting and demographic options.

Instagram ad objectives include video views, click-throughs to your website, mobile app installations and mass awareness.

Tip: Need help with your overall social media marketing strategy? Visit our comprehensive overview of social media marketing solutions. Before paying for a solution, though, develop a marketing budget to figure out what specific services you can afford.

7. Obtain audience insights.

Anyone with a business account can access insights about their audience and engagement levels. In your Instagram business account, open the menu and tap Insights to see metrics on your followers and their activity with your content. On any individual post, tap View Insights to see metrics for that post.

The information you glean from Insights can help you optimize your posting schedule, pinpoint your target audience and find out what’s working.

8. Sell products on Instagram.

Instagram is a great way to start selling online. In November 2020, Instagram added the Shop tab, allowing users to discover and purchase products from brands directly through the app. Instagram’s Shop functionality is likely a response to continuous social media and mobile shopping growth.

You can sell your products under the Shop tab or create shoppable posts by adding product tags to your posts, stories, and reels.

To set up shopping on Instagram:

  1. Connect your Instagram business account to your Facebook business page.
  2. Confirm that Instagram supports your market.
  3. Choose whether you want to set up shop using Facebook’s Commerce Manager or a supported partner like Shopify.
  4. Create your shop in Commerce Manager or your platform.

To complete a transaction, users enter their name, email address, billing info and shipping address. Meta, Instagram’s parent company, will save that data for future transactions. Users can pay via Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover and PayPal.

Key takeaway: To maximize Instagram for your business, connect it to your Facebook business page, interact with other users, use hashtags thoughtfully, post quality photos, and set up a shop.

Instagram tips and tricks

Follow these tips to get the most out of your Instagram business account:

  • Don’t try to put links in Instagram captions. Your profile is the only place you can share a working link that takes users to a website. Links don’t work in captions or photo comments. If you want to direct people to a specific website, change the default link in your bio to that URL, and note in the caption that the link is in your bio.
  • Ensure posts relate to your brand. It can be tempting to share photos of food, fashion and animals because they’re popular on the platform. But if your business has nothing to do with those things, it could make you look disjointed and confuse your followers.
  • Run giveaways and promotions. Post an image advertising your giveaway, sale or contest, and ask users to repost that image with a specific custom hashtag to enter. Search for that hashtag to see who has reposted it, and pick a winner. Promotions allow your customers and followers to market your brand for you by talking about your promotion on their profiles, driving more people to your profile. If you decide to run a contest or sweepstakes, be sure to follow social media contest guidelines.
  • Respond to followers’ comments. When people comment on your photos, be sure to reply. Interacting with customers and followers shows you’re paying attention and care about what they say. They’ll be more likely to continue following you and interacting with your posts if they know they’re important to you.
  • Embed Instagram posts on your website. From the desktop version of Instagram, you can get an embed code to add specific images and videos to your company’s website. This shows visitors that you’re active on Instagram and can help you gain more followers. Select the photo you want to embed, click More (three dots) in the bottom right corner and then select Embed. This pulls up a box with the embed code and gives you the option to display the caption. From there, copy and paste the code where you want it to go on your website.
  • Use Instagram influencers to promote your business. Influencers can serve as brand ambassadors for your business. Influencers are people with a significant following on Instagram. Find influencers who are a natural, organic fit for your business and who will be genuinely enthusiastic about promoting your products. You’ll pay some influencers, while others will accept free products as compensation.
  • Share posts directly to your story. If a client posts a photo of your product, share the post directly to your story to highlight the product and your client. With this feature, small businesses can interact with followers while promoting their products or services.
  • Use polls and other features in your stories. Instagram offers many interactive features for building online conversations and relationships. For instance, use the interactive questions sticker in Instagram Stories so followers can submit questions for you to answer. This is a fun and easy way to interact with your followers.
  • Use video. Instagram has several ways to incorporate video. Reels are vertical videos you can access from the bottom-center button of the Instagram mobile app. They last up to 60 seconds and are a great way to feature new products, highlight your work or engage with customers. Instagram feed videos can be up to 60 minutes long and are excellent for long-form content. (Feed videos replaced IGTV, Instagram’s previous long-form video format.) Instagram Live videos and Instagram Stories videos are other options.

Tip: Use a video app to create social media posts with time-lapse videos, GIFs, and long or short video clips.

Instagram terminology

To get the most out of Instagram, stay up to date on the social media platform’s terminology.

  • Bio: Your bio is the biography section in your profile. Businesses can also use their bio to include a call to action.
  • Direct messages (DMs): Users can privately communicate with each other through direct messages. If a customer has a complaint or question, follow live chat best practices to resolve the issue via private direct message. Direct messages are often referred to as “DMs.”
  • Filters: Apply preset filters to your photos to enhance features and colors.
  • Follow: When you follow a user on Instagram, you’ll see their content in your timeline. You can also view their Instagram Stories at the top of the app.
  • Followers: Your followers are people who will see your pictures in their timeline and your Stories at the top of the app.
  • Hashtag (#): Like Twitter hastags, a hashtag (marked with the pound sign) on Instagram is used to index words or phrases. When you click on a hashtag, you’ll see other posts with the same one.
  • Highlights: A highlight reel of your Instagram Stories appears on your profile above your photo gallery and stays until you remove it.
  • Home: Tap the home button in the bottom-left corner to land on your home screen, which is also your timeline or feed. Here you’ll see photos from those you follow.
  • IG: IG is an abbreviation for Instagram.
  • Instagram handle: Your handle is your username. To mention a user on Instagram, you must use their handle, which always starts with the @ symbol.
  • Instagram Stories: Stories is one of the most popular features on the platform. These pictures and videos disappear after 24 hours.
  • Reels: Reels are short videos users or brands can post for engaging content. Reels are Instagram’s answer to TikTok.
  • Tag: There are a few ways to tag people on Instagram, including in a photo’s caption, in Instagram Stories and in photos. Use the @ symbol to tag someone in a caption or an Instagram story. You can tag someone in your photos before you post the picture.

Expert SEO & Google Algorithm Predictions For 2023

Whether it’s for your own brand, or you create social content for a variety of businesses, creating consistently great content is a challenge for even the most seasoned marketers.

Are you aware of your social media content sins?

Often, it’s easy to pick out the mistakes that other brands or agencies are making, but it’s a bit more difficult to see your own.

Below is an outline of some of the most abhorrent sins in the social media world to assist you in evaluating your online content.

Take a look at the list, and then at your content. Make fixes. Repeat.

Wrath

Also known as extreme anger or rage, wrath can wreak havoc for your brand – both online and off – in the blink of an eye.

Wrath is one of the most self-destructive social media sins and is the leading cause of many of the feuds, flameouts, and rants that we encounter so often online – especially in social media.

Remember, one ridiculous public rant will cancel out decades of respectable business practices.

If something sets you off, sit on your hands or step away from the keyboard for a while.

Take a walk, listen to some music, or talk to a trusted advisor before you share anything in a public forum.

Often, after the heat of a rage-inducing moment passes, your initial passionate reaction will just seem silly, even to you.

While you may see a brief spotlight shining on your content, and even get some laughs for calling out the opposition or sharing negative content, rarely does social media raging result in long-term online success.

Forget the idea of “going viral.”

Do you really want to be remembered for losing your cool in a public forum?

Tips for Social Media Success

Instead of engaging in a rage, step back and analyze the issue.

Do not post anything, anywhere until you’ve calmed down.

Bring in a trusted advisor if necessary.

Address any issues with professionalism and courtesy, if at all.

If the issue must be addressed, attempt to take the conversation offline and out of the eye of your audience.

Remember, even seemingly private online conversations are never private.

Emails get shared, messages get screenshot and shared.

If you don’t say it, it can’t come back to bite you down the road.

Pride

We aren’t talking about taking pride in your work, we’re talking about the side of pride associated with arrogance.

Often considered the original sin, pride is considered excessive self-love that blinds the ability to acknowledge the good work of others.

This kind of pride can be detrimental in social media settings and in-person environments alike.

Elevating and inflating your worth above that of others not only frustrates your social media community, but also makes you a target for negativity and bad press.

Don’t forget, the fall from a high horse is a painful one with a rough landing.

By admitting that you’re not perfect, and highlighting the work or great content from other sources when you see them, you show your social communities that you’re not only looking out for your own success, but also for the greater good of the community as a whole.

That community can be geographically local, industry-specific, or even a group that has assembled due to common interests or hobbies.

Earning the trust of these communities is critical to your success, and if they think you’ve got an overblown ego, you will not earn that trust.

Tips for Social Media Success

Humility is a good thing.

The ability to operate with humility will allow you to not only help others online, but elevate yourself or your brand as well.

Social media is all about community and engagement. A level playing field is key here.

Social media users like to see a human element behind the brands that they interact with.

Show them that side of you, and let them know that you’re not just in it for your own self-promotion.

Sloth

Perhaps the most tragic sin on the list involves the wasting of one’s talent. This can be an individual, a product line, or even a brand as a whole.

In order to be successful in social media, brands must not allow complacency to stand in the way of excellence.

Just like coworkers in an office, your audience will quickly learn if you’re being lazy on social media and will stop looking to your brand as an industry information leader on social media.

No one wants to work with a lazy team.

Show your audience your value by putting your best foot forward in the social media space.

Tips for Social Media Success

Go the extra mile at every opportunity.

Provide fans and followers with valuable information and respond to comments and inquiries genuinely and with honesty.

Avoid public embarrassment by verifying social media post content for accuracy and timeliness before sharing to your social profiles.

Additionally, don’t steal content from other sites.

Ever.

Credit original creators when you share content and take a moment to add unique commentary that adds value for your audience.

The time and effort you put into creating and sharing great content with integrity will show.

Greed

Greed is often noted as a cause for the downfall of even some of the most brilliant and logical minds.

Unfortunately, greed can be sneaky and can cause a host of problems.

Most notably, a loss of trust from one’s audience, which can result in a loss of what likely caused the greed in the first place – profit.

Often, when creating social media content, we focus on more. More followers, more sales, more engagement.

These tend to be good things, however, too much of a good thing can quickly become excessive.

If you grow your followers too quickly, your numbers can appear falsely inflated and end up resulting in reduced engagement.

If your sales increase too quickly, you may not be able to handle the volume.

Some luxury brands actually do better with a smaller following.

Those people are more likely to be actual customers, and less likely to complain about luxury brand pricing.

Tips for Social Media Success

Ensuring that you have systems in place for multiple stages of growth will ensure that engagement and buzz stay positive.

Remember that members of your audience and even your competition are real people, and like to be treated as such. Don’t let your drive for success overshadow the value of your audience and their loyalty.

Envy

A very close partner to pride and lust, envy is rooted in an insatiable need to possess the traits or belongings of someone else.

Sure, your biggest competitor’s most recent social media campaign was phenomenal, and you wish that it had been yours.

How you react to that wish is what is key here.

A little bit of envy can help drive creativity and success.

Too much, however, and you’ll spend all of your time comparing yourself or your brand to others.

It’s impossible to excel if you’re always looking at someone else’s work instead of focusing on your own.

Your team will get frustrated, and eventually will give up due to feeling like they can never meet the unattainable goals set for them.

Tips for Social Media Success

Run your own race.

There’s a reason they put blinders on racehorses.

Focusing on your lane will allow you to excel without worrying about what’s going on somewhere else.

Whether it is a need for glowing professional recognition, winning a big contract, or having the best and newest car in the parking lot; don’t let envy get in the way of your ability to do a great job.

Gluttony

There is such a thing as too much of a good thing – this can come in the form of constant hedonism or posting to your social profiles round the clock.

We’ve all seen that person or brand who is constantly posting self-promotional content, over-filtered images, or tooting their own horn.

They spend so much time pumping out social media posts that their audience stops seeing the value.

Don’t let your passion for your business or success to take over every aspect of your life.

Overindulgence is not only distasteful to others, but it will also make clients question your “why” and will annoy your peers.

Tips for Social Media Success

Work to achieve balance, and reward accordingly.

The wins are sweeter when you celebrate them.

If you’re constantly overindulging, the reward will stop having value.

Lust

We aren’t talking about wanting to get up close and personal with your audience, though that would also likely be frowned upon in most circles.

Much like greed, lust for power or profit is self-destructive and off-putting, both online and off.

Continually striving to be the best version of yourself that you can be is great.

That said, balancing that drive with self-control and focus back to your social media communities will allow you to keep your audiences’ perceptions of your brand positive.

While drive is good, be careful to not let it appear as though all you care about is image and power.

Tips for Social Media Success

Balance your push for success by taking the time to give back.

Offer helpful advice in industry groups, volunteer in your community, and even take some time to smell the flowers.

Show your audience that it’s not all about winning, and you’ll create better relationships.

To Sum Up

We’ve all been guilty of committing these social media content sins a time or two.

The key here is to work to achieve balance and keep your audience wanting more.

Working to be the best version of yourself or your brand should be your ultimate goal.

This is what drives engagement, loyalty, and profit.

Wordle was the most-searched term on Google search in 2022, both in the United States and across the world, according to the Google Trends Year in Search roundup. The game beat out terms like “election results” and “Jeffrey Dahmer” in the United States (the 2nd and 10th most popular terms, respectively) and “Ukraine” and “Queen Elizabeth” globally (3rd and 4th).

“This really became a shared obsession for everyone and you can see that in the data,” Simon Rogers, trends data team lead at Google, told The Washington Post.

Wordle is a daily vocabulary game, similar to Jotto or Mastermind, in which users are given six guesses to figure out the word of the day. All players get the same word (which is determined by an editor at the New York Times) and can play only once per day.

The game became a viral hit in late 2021 after players started sharing cryptic emoji square arrangements along with a snippet of text (usually the word Wordle, followed by the number of the puzzle) on social media, prompting others to ask: “What’s Wordle?” On Jan. 31, the New York Times Company purchased Wordle from its original developer, the programmer Josh Wardle, for an undisclosed “low-seven figure” sum.

Readers dismayed to learn that Wordle outperformed other, weightier subjects on Google search can take solace in the fact that its placement at the top of the list came from people searching the term year-round. A Trends comparison of the terms Wordle, Queen Elizabeth II and Ukraine shows higher average interest in Wordle throughout the year, but also peaks during momentous, news-making weeks when the other terms dominated.

“I would say what made Wordle trend higher was that it was something that consistently captivated people throughout the year,” Rogers said. “There were moments within the year such as the invasion of Ukraine and the passing of Her Majesty the Queen where those terms spiked much higher. But people’s love for the game remained consistent, because for many people, the game has been a daily highlight or pick-me-up.”

Five-letter Wordle answers also made up the bulk of the top Google searches for word definitions in 2022. Of the top 10 searched-for definitions, Google identified seven as Wordle answers: cacao, homer, canny, foray, trove, saute and tacit. The top trending definition was also a five-letter word, and a Wordle answer in March: rupee, a name for the currency used in several South Asian countries, including India. In its roundup, Google did not mark rupee as a Wordle-related search. Oligarch and recession rounded out the list of the top 10 words for which users sought definitions.

“I think it’s a testament to just how much Wordle took the world by storm in 2022,” Rogers said. “You simply can’t overstate it!”

In the U.S., 2022’s top trending Google searches were:

  1. Wordle
  2. Election results
  3. Betty White
  4. Queen Elizabeth
  5. Bob Saget
  6. Ukraine
  7. Mega Millions
  8. Powerball numbers
  9. Anne Heche
  10. Jeffrey Dahmer

Globally, the top 10 Google Searches were:

  1. Wordle
  2. India vs England
  3. Ukraine
  4. Queen Elizabeth
  5. Ind vs SA (a cricket match between India and South Africa)
  6. World Cup
  7. India vs West Indies
  8. iPhone 14
  9. Jeffrey Dahmer
  10. Indian Premier League

The Do’s and Don’t of Electrician Business this 2021

Starting a company is difficult and there are many things that can go wrong. However, growing a company in a highly competitive market is more difficult. An electrician‘s job can be lucrative, productive, and thrilling. So, whether you want to start a new business or expand your current one, 2021 is the year to do it. There is a lot to learn about starting and developing an electrical company. We’ve put together a quick guide to help you learn and succeed in 2021

Do – Get a business plan

If you are just starting a business or want to grow it, the first step is to make or update your business plan. Without a strategic strategy, the electrical company may not be able to get off the ground. It does take some time, but it is time well invested. It enables you to plan out how your company will run, function, and expand in order to navigate a preset path to growth.

Practical decisions such as electrician quotes and their process, price strategy, and management policy will be part of your electrical business plan, but it will also include strategic plans for expansion, an overview of the market, and outline areas in which you expect to work. Also, include financial projections, growth opportunities and ways to achieve them.

Staying current on developments is essential for maintaining a positive reputation and integrity, as well as showing that you know where your specialty is heading in the future. Successful companies devote hours each day to keeping up with the latest news and developments in their market, so that they can stay ahead of the curve and adjust their plans to match them. The key to success is to constantly learn new knowledge and adapt to the current world.

Don’t – Don’t compromise on trades and the right equipment

The easiest way to grow a business is to hire more trades to work with you. This way you can pick up more jobs and increase your revenue. So, first and foremost, make sure you get all of your paperwork in order, including licenses, insurance, and so on. People do not want to hire unqualified electricians. As a result, only employ licensed electricians for your business. You should also hire an apprentice and give them the chance to practice and learn under your supervision.

As you are aware, there are many specializations available as an electrician. You can use this opportunity to expand your market. For instance, if you were mainly a residential electrician, you might employ a commercial electrician. This will support you in entering into a new market and increasing your revenue. Alternatively, you might employ an electrician who offers different services than you, such as solar panel systems installation and repairs.

Confirm that you and all of your electricians have at least the essential tools for completing the jobs that are assigned to them. Since it’s a mobile business, you’ll want to have everything you need on hand when you visit your customers’ locations. Although this can often need an initial financial commitment, it is a requirement that is worth taking the time to get correct so that you are not trapped at work without the right resources to get the job done.

Do – Have an online presence

You are seriously losing out if you do not have a website. Every company should have a website that lets them generate leads, provide positive feedback, and highlight previous work. You can also promote fun offers including free electrician renovation quotes. 56% of people say they would not trust a company that does not have a website.

A high-quality website not only makes a strong first impression, but it also immediately increases your reputation as a legitimate company. Outside of your working hours, when you are not around to answer the phone or respond to emails, your website will provide the customer with the necessary details.

Remember to optimist your website’s local SEO such that it appears when anyone searches for an electrician in your service area. In 2021, 54% of social media users will use platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Interest to research goods and services.

And more people than ever going online and using social media, there is no easier or more effective way to capture the interest of potential customers. It also makes it easier to promote purchases and discounts by displaying the social media advertising to the right audience at the right time.

Use social media to drive more traffic and links to your website, which will help you draw more visitors. So, if you don’t have a social media account, you’re majorly missing out. If you want an electrician to look at a problem you’re having in your house or work, we have another guide to understand how much an electrician costs.
